The death toll from a landslide in the western Indian state of Maharashtra has risen to 26, with dozens more feared trapped under mud two days after the disaster.
The landslide occurred on the night of July 20 in a small village in the Irshalwadi mountains, 60km from Mumbai city, flattening many houses.
It is estimated that at least 225 people live in this village, of which more than 80 people managed to escape the landslide scene.
The Times of India newspaper reported on July 22 that about 80 people are still missing.
An official from the Natural Disaster Response Force said that the force is currently mobilizing available technological and technical equipment to carry out rescue missions.
However, it is not yet certain how many people are still trapped.
Rescue operations are also being hampered by persistent rain, poor visibility and steep terrain.
About 16-17 houses were affected and many families had to be evacuated after the landslide.
