The representative of the Chinese brand Chery has just announced that the Omoda C5 model may arrive in the Vietnamese market in the third quarter of this year.
The product is expected to cost around 600-700 million VND. Before the joint venture factory between Chery and Geleximco of Vietnam is completed, this SUV model will be imported completely from Indonesia.
The Vietnamese market is about to welcome another B-size SUV model from Indonesia.
In addition, on January 10, the Vietnamese market also welcomed the Mitsubishi Xforce B-size SUV from Indonesia. This product will be distributed in 4 versions with a starting price of 620 million VND. It is expected that deliveries will be implemented from March 2024.
Affordable import costs are considered the reason why manufacturers bring cars from Southeast Asian countries to our country's market.
Currently, many car brands in Vietnam have a much lower proportion of domestically assembled cars than completely imported cars. In 2023, data released by the General Department of Customs showed that the number of cars imported from Indonesia to Vietnam ranked second in the imported car market, reaching 42,676 units, with a total value of more than 607 million USD, corresponding to a decrease of 41.2% and 42.1% respectively compared to 2022.
Surpassing Indonesia, cars manufactured in Thailand imported into Vietnam reached 53,942 units with a turnover value of more than 1.14 billion USD, down 25.1% in volume and 20.3% in value compared to the previous year.
