On August 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the Ukrainian army had captured more areas in Russia's Kursk province.

In a video address, Mr. Zelensky said that Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reported on the operation in the Kursk region, according to which Ukrainian forces continue to expand the territory under control in areas near the Ukrainian border.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned US Charge d'Affaires Stephanie Holmes to strongly protest the activities of US reporters in Kursk province and accused the US of direct involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In a statement on August 20, the Russian Foreign Ministry accused American reporters of illegally entering Kursk and spreading propaganda for the Kiev government. Moscow also presented evidence of the presence of American mercenaries in the Ukrainian armed forces.

The statement said these actions contradicted the Biden administration's claims of having no involvement in Ukraine's attack on Russia. Russia accused the United States of being directly involved in the conflict at the behest of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Russian Foreign Ministry warned that all foreign "specialists" and mercenaries who illegally cross the border will become legitimate Russian military targets.
