On October 6, the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province held a workshop to collect opinions on the project to develop Con Dao until 2030, with a vision to 2045.
At the workshop, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province Le Ngoc Khanh said that the province hopes to receive many contributions from experts and scientists to help the province promote tourism potential, preserve historical revolutionary relics, and protect nature as a driving force for Con Dao to develop sustainably.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hong Quan, Director of the Institute for Circular Economic Development Research, pointed out that Con Dao is facing a number of problems such as waste treatment, lack of domestic water, and the ecosystem is at risk of degradation due to economic activities and climate change. Converting to a circular economic model is an inevitable trend and applying it in Con Dao can meet the needs of socio-economic development, environmental sanitation, and promotion of cultural and ecological values.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Van Hanh, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that Con Dao tourism development needs to go hand in hand with environmental conservation and the island's unique cultural heritage. A sustainable direction for Con Dao tourism must be based on close cooperation between local authorities, the tourism industry, the local community and tourists.
Delegates also proposed some specific suggestions such as designing tourism without plastic consumption and self-management of waste, creating healing and personal development tourism products such as meditation and yoga to seek relaxation and spiritual regeneration. Con Dao can also create volunteer tourism programs, build hotels and resorts using renewable energy; especially, create tourism programs for students to learn about marine animals, marine ecosystems and conservation issues...
Ba Ria - Vung Tau province aims to develop Con Dao into a high-quality, regional and international-class marine eco-tourism area by 2045; an area to preserve special national historical relics; an area to preserve diverse forest and marine ecosystems; and at the same time, carry out important tasks of national defense and security.
