President attends groundbreaking and inauguration ceremony of two projects in Con Dao

President Vo Van Thuong and delegates perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the main building of the Military-Civilian Medical Center of Con Dao district.

During a working trip to Con Dao district, Ba Ria Vung Tau province, on the morning of July 20, President Vo Van Thuong and the delegation attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Military-Civilian Medical Center and witnessed the Inauguration Ceremony of Con Dao Passenger Port.

These are important socio-economic and civil infrastructure works serving the people and tourists, aiming at the goal of developing Con Dao more synchronously and comprehensively.

Also attending the events were former Presidents Nguyen Minh Triet and Truong Tan Sang; Secretaries of the Party Central Committee: Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia, Head of the Central Mass Mobilization Department Bui Thi Minh Hoai.

Con Dao is located far from the mainland, so the development conditions in the socio-economic fields are difficult, especially in the medical field. Faced with this reality, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province decided to invest in building the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center to form a modern medical facility, providing high-quality medical services, meeting the health care needs of the people, soldiers and tourists; associated with ensuring national defense and security, contributing to improving the quality of life of the people.

The project is built on an area of ​​12,110m2 (total construction area 3,172m2, total floor area 9,294m2) with a total investment of more than 247 billion VND, from the provincial budget, belonging to a level 2 civil project.

In phase 1, the project has a scale of 60 beds and will increase to 100 beds in phase 2, equivalent to a grade 3 general hospital.

The project includes construction items such as the main building block of 5 floors, fully equipped with departments and rooms including: emergency - intensive care and anti-poison, diagnostic imaging, nutrition, surgery, testing, administrative area, examination, outpatient treatment, along with 8 other examination and inpatient treatment departments.

The project will be implemented in 4 years, the construction period is 50 years for the main construction and 20 years for auxiliary construction.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, the leaders of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province requested the investor, construction units, designers, and supervision consultants to comply with regulations to implement the construction of the project in order to soon complete and put it into use on time, on schedule, and with quality.

On the same morning, President Vo Van Thuong attended the inauguration ceremony of Con Dao Passenger Port. This is an important project in terms of transport infrastructure, promoting the potential and advantages of the district, especially in the tourism sector, aiming to build Con Dao into a high-quality, unique, regional and international sea-island ecological and cultural-historical-spiritual tourist area with a synchronous and modern technical infrastructure system, linking socio-economic development with ensuring national defense and security.

Con Dao Passenger Wharf belongs to the Con Dao Passenger Port project invested by Ben Dam Port Management Board, started construction in November 2011. The project has a total investment of 158 billion VND.

The project is connected to the shore by a wharf, including an approach bridge (370m long, 7m wide) and a pier (50m long, 12m wide). The wharf is designed to receive passenger ships carrying 300 people with functional items including: a 535m2 passenger terminal, a 540m2 port operator building and auxiliary technical infrastructure works.

President Vo Van Thuong and leaders and former leaders of the Party and State cut the ribbon to inaugurate Con Dao Passenger Port.

During the construction process, despite many difficulties in terms of geography, climate and distance from the mainland, with the efforts and determination of Con Dao district, construction units, contractors and the attention and support of authorities at all levels, relevant agencies and units, by August 2022, the project was completed.

In March 2023, the project was announced as a port by the Vietnam Maritime Administration and Ben Dam Port Management Board organized a trial operation to welcome ships arriving and departing from the port from March 2023 to present.

With its location entirely in Con Son Bay, well protected from the wind, Con Dao Passenger Port has many advantages to pick up and drop off ships even on rough sea days. At the same time, the Port's location right in the center of Con Dao district will create favorable conditions for passengers on the journey from the mainland to Con Dao, shortening the distance of nearly 15km from Ben Dam Port to Con Dao Center.
