Launching the UpRace 2023 community running race

On October 15, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, People with Disabilities and Social Protection of Vinh Long province launched the UpRace 2023 community run.

This is a free community running event for everyone on the UpRace web/mobile platform launched by the Vietnam Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans.

Through the race, the aim is to promote the movement of health and sports training of the people, and at the same time raise charity funds by converting the number of kilometers achieved by the runners. Each kilometer corresponds to a minimum of 1,000 VND to implement the program of supporting eye surgery for the visually impaired and supporting livelihood capital for the disabled who are still able to work.

The UpRace 2023 community running tournament in Vinh Long province will take place from October 15-29, 2023. With the theme "Journey of Happiness", the province strives to attract more than 5,000 participants to the event with 25,000 km of running route carried out through concentrated running and individual running.

Athletes participating in the UpRace 2023 community run can use smartphones installed with the UpRace program or watches with GPRS positioning. Participants are free to run at any time and place and actively record running results on mobile phones to accumulate as much running distance as possible.

Le Thanh Xuan, Chairman of the Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, People with Disabilities and Social Protection of Vinh Long Province, said that UpRace is a voluntary and highly humane activity. The number of kilometers run by the athletes will be a practical and meaningful gift to bring “light of happiness” to the visually impaired and a source of funding to support the disabled in their livelihoods, helping to improve the lives of the disabled.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, more than 1,600 athletes including officials, civil servants, employees, workers, union members, students, and pupils participated in a collective run on Vo Van Kiet Street, Ward 9, Vinh Long City with a distance of 2km for women and 4km for men.

The Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, People with Disabilities and Social Protection of Vinh Long province will continue to coordinate with departments, branches and organizations to propagate and mobilize people throughout the province to voluntarily participate in the race to spread the humanitarian meaning of this event.

Also on the morning of October 15, in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Provincial Youth Union coordinated with the Provincial Association for the Protection of Poor Children, People with Disabilities and Orphans, and the Provincial Women's Union to organize the launching ceremony of the UpRace community running activity in Khanh Hoa in 2023.

Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Youth Union, said that UpRace 2023 is a free community running event for everyone on the UpRace web/mobile platform. Participants are free to run at any time and location and actively record their running results on mobile devices (mobile phones, sports watches, etc.) to accumulate as much running distance as possible.

The event held in Khanh Hoa will promote the movement of people exercising, and at the same time contribute to other localities participating in the fundraising program for social organizations participating in the event. The method is simple, converting the number of kilometers the runner runs into money and directly supporting disabled students and people with disabilities to improve their lives, each kilometer corresponds to a minimum of 1,000 VND.

At the launching ceremony, about 500 people in Khanh Hoa participated in the run, with the route from the sandy beach area of ​​Tram Huong tower to Lousiane restaurant and back, the total length of the route was 2km.

At the UpRace 2022 event, runners contributed to raising funds to support scholarships for 1,089 disabled and orphaned students in especially difficult circumstances and supporting the livelihoods of 91 disabled people in 18 provinces and cities with a total budget of up to 3.3 billion VND.

UpRace is a charity running project initiated and technically sponsored by VNG Corporation since 2018. Each kilometer recorded in UpRace will be converted by VNG and sponsoring businesses into money to support 3 social organizations: Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund, Association for the Support of Vietnamese Disabled and Orphans (ASVHO) and GreenViet Biodiversity Conservation Center.
