On September 26, at the headquarters of Hanoi Moi Newspaper (44 Le Thai To, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi), the Organizing Committee of the 48th Hanoi Moi Newspaper Open Race - For Peace 2023 held a press conference to inform about the final competition.
The Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run is an annual tournament assigned by Hanoi city to two agencies: Hanoi Moi Newspaper and Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports as permanent co-organizers.
Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper Nguyen Minh Duc chaired the meeting. Also attending were Deputy Editors-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper: Mai Thi Kim Thoa, Luong Chi Cong, Lai Ba Ha; Vice President of the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations Tran Thi Phuong; Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Pham Thi My Hoa, along with representatives of the gold sponsors and co-sponsors of the award.
Many new features in organization
The Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run is the most traditional run in the capital, first held in 1974 and has become a familiar name to many generations of Hanoians.
This is a major socio-political sporting event held annually. It is also one of the key sporting activities of Hanoi to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day; 24 years since Hanoi was recognized as a City for Peace by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Speaking at the press conference, Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper Nguyen Minh Duc said that the tournament will kick off on March 26, 2023 with the city's Launching Ceremony held at the intersection of Hang Khay - Trang Tien - Hang Bai - Dinh Tien Hoang and around Hoan Kiem Lake, combined with the Olympic Running Day for the health of all people. This is also a new feature of the tournament that has been maintained for 5 years so that wards, communes and towns throughout the city can jointly organize the two events, creating a vibrant atmosphere of physical training and sports in the area.
As of September 25, 2023, 29/30 units in the city have completed the finals of the district, county and town races. The units have selected athletes, established training teams and registered to participate in the finals of the city-level race.
The races in districts, towns and cities have been organized to ensure professional requirements and on schedule. The number of participants in the test run exceeded the targets set by the districts, towns and cities. The quality of the competition has also been significantly improved.
The final competition will open at 7am on Saturday, September 30, at Ba Kieu Temple and around Hoan Kiem Lake, with the participation of more than 1,500 athletes, including more than 250 foreign athletes from embassies and international organizations based in Hanoi; more than 1,250 athletes from provinces and cities across the country.
Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper Nguyen Minh Duc added that the Organizing Committee will award individual prizes to male and female athletes ranked from 1 to 5; and team prizes to teams ranked from 1 to 3 in each group. The first, second, and third prizes will be awarded to 3 groups: District group; University, College, Vocational High School, and Open Group. The total prize value is over 90 million VND.
The new feature of this year’s race is that Do-win Hung Phat Company will give a pair of running shoes to each male and female athlete ranked 1-5 in the middle and high school groups. This is the first time the Hanoi New Race has this award to encourage the spirit of practicing running among students.
In particular, this year, the Organizing Committee has software to support athletes to save images when competing on the track, through the number worn through AI software that is looked up on the fanpage of Hanoi Moi Newspaper. This is also a new step to improve and renew the organization of the tournament.
Prepare actively and thoughtfully
According to Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Pham Thi My Hoa, in this year's final competition, athletes will compete in 12 events. The Organizing Committee has coordinated with departments, agencies and branches such as the City Police, Department of Health... to make detailed plans to ensure the best safety for athletes when participating in the competition.
In 2023, more than 150 professional athletes from 20 provinces, cities and sectors registered to participate in the tournament. Notably, many leading athletes of Vietnam's athletics village, including many familiar faces, participated in the competition, such as: Tran Van Dang (Hanoi), Pham Tien San (Bac Giang), Le Tien Long (Ha Tinh) ... These are all national team athletes, who have won SEA Games gold medals.
Vice President of the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations Tran Thi Phuong said that more than 250 foreign athletes, officials and employees of embassies and international organizations studying and working in Hanoi participated in this year's tournament, showing that the tournament's message of "For Peace" is increasingly spreading to many international friends.

The final round of the 48th Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run - For Peace 2023 will be broadcast live on VTV2 channel of Vietnam Television from 7:00 to 10:00 on September 30.
