On the morning of October 22, a representative of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) said that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet admitted to using an illegal high school diploma and voluntarily surrendered the diplomas for handling according to regulations.
Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Vice Principal of Hanoi University, said that the school is carrying out procedures to revoke the bachelor's degree in English from the distance learning program granted to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet at the request of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Mr. Viet studied English language program, distance learning system at the University of Foreign Languages (now Hanoi University) from 1994 to 2001. This was also the first university to award a bachelor's degree in English to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet.
Then, in 2019, Mr. Viet continued to be recognized for his graduation and was awarded a bachelor's degree in law with a second degree - part-time study, with excellent grades at Hanoi Law University.
Previously, a representative of Hanoi University said that they no longer kept the admission records, including Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's high school diploma, because according to regulations, the period for keeping admission records is until the end of the course.
Mr. Viet's time studying English at this school lasted 6 years and 4 months, within the allowed time frame for the distance learning system.
Yesterday, October 21, after a thorough and careful review of the training process and coordination with relevant authorities to verify Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's qualifications, the Ministry of Education and Training said it determined that Mr. Viet had illegally used his high school diploma and Mr. Viet admitted to this.
The Ministry of Education and Training has requested relevant higher education institutions to urgently revoke the diploma granted to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet according to the law, and at the same time review the training organization process to avoid similar cases.
More than 2 months ago, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City sent an official dispatch to the Government Committee for Religious Affairs regarding the verification of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's high school diploma.
The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training confirmed that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's name was not on the list of candidates and the scoreboard of the high school supplementary education graduation exam.
According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training on enrollment and training for bachelor, master and doctoral degrees, students who commit fraud in preparing documents to obtain degrees and certificates (using fake degrees in their registration documents) will be forced to leave school. Diplomas that have been granted will be revoked and canceled according to regulations.
