At the plenary session on May 10, the Russian State Duma (Lower House) voted to approve the reappointment of Mr. Mikhail Mishustin as Prime Minister as nominated by President Vladimir Putin earlier.

In his speech to the Russian State Duma deputies after his re-appointment, Mr. Mishustin affirmed that the basis for the Government's activities in the next six years is President Vladimir Putin's message to the Federal Assembly.
The Russian Prime Minister also outlined the main priority areas that the government needs to focus on in the coming years, including strengthening the economy, ensuring technological sovereignty, digital transformation, supporting families with children, as well as the balanced development of the country's regions and infrastructure.
This is the first time in the history of modern Russia that the State Duma has carried out the task of approving the Prime Minister.
After the 2020 Constitutional amendments, the Russian State Duma was given the power to approve the positions of Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Civil Affairs, instead of just agreeing to nominations as before.
Exceptions include the heads of the Interior Ministry, Emergencies Ministry, Defense Ministry, Foreign Ministry and Justice Ministry, who will be appointed by the President of Russia after consultation with the Federation Council (upper house).
Mikhail Mishustin has been Prime Minister for more than four years - since January 2020. After being officially appointed, he will become the 14th head of government in the period of independent Russia and the fourth prime minister to be re-elected for a second term.
