Vietnam team defeated Myanmar team 5-0, officially entered the semi-finals of the 2024 Southeast Asian Football Championship
On the evening of December 21, at Viet Tri Stadium, Phu Tho province, the Vietnamese team defeated the Myanmar team 5-0, officially entering the semi-finals of the 2024 Southeast Asian Football Championship (ASEAN Cup 2024) against the Singapore team. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh came to watch, cheer and present flowers to the players.
According to the assessment, this match not only determines the ticket to the semi-finals but also marks an important milestone for naturalized striker Nguyen Xuan Son. The match against Myanmar is also the beginning of Xuan Son in the Vietnamese national team and fans are all paying attention to the naturalized player in this match.
In terms of force balance, Vietnam continues to be considered the "upper hand" in terms of squad quality, performance and head-to-head record. Not only that, Vietnam also gets to play at home with the presence of naturalized striker Xuan Son (Rafaelson).
Before the match, Coach Myo Hlaing Win of the Myanmar team said: This match is important for both teams. This is the last match of the two teams. Myanmar needs to win to qualify for the next round, but this match is also very important for Vietnam. Previously, winning 3 points against Laos at home gave Myanmar players more confidence for the match with Vietnam. I would like to thank the players for showing the highest spirit in that match. In the first half, the Vietnamese team showed superior play when controlling the ball up to 71%. The players continuously had long passes, attacking quickly on both wings.
With 14 finishing situations, including 4 situations by midfielder Xuan Son and many other situations by Vietnamese players that endangered the opponent's goal, however, luck still did not come to the home team.
Entering the second half, in the 48th minute, Xuan Son's cross created an opportunity for Vi Hao to score into an empty net to open the match's score.
The first goal created excitement for nearly 17,000 spectators at Viet Tri Stadium. A giant national flag was passed around the stadium. Thousands of spectators watching on 4 large screens in Viet Tri City also exploded with cheers of “Vietnam wins”, “Vietnam is the champion”.
In the 55th minute, from a well-timed cross by Vi Hao, Xuan Son received the ball and calmly handled it before scoring, raising the score to 2-0 for the Vietnam team. In the 74th minute, Quang Hai scored from outside the penalty area, raising the score to 3-0 for the home team.
In the 90+1 minute, from a combination with Tien Linh, Xuan Son dribbled the ball with his left foot, causing trouble for the Myanmar defense and continued to score the 4th goal for the Vietnam Team. In the 90+3 minute, Xuan Son continued to assist Tien Linh to score the 5th goal, which was also the goal that sealed the 5-0 score of the match.
