Many famous grandmasters participate in the 2024 National Team Chess Championship

The tournament attracted 400 athletes from 23 provinces, cities and sectors nationwide; including many famous grandmasters in the Chess world such as: Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Tran Tuan Minh, Le Tuan Minh, Vo Thi Kim Phung, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung, Pham Le Thao Nguyen... The athletes competed in 3 categories: standard chess, rapid chess and blitz chess for men's team, women's team, mixed doubles, Khmer chess individual according to the Swiss system of 9 rounds.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Thang, Vice President of the Vietnam Chess Federation, said that the tournament was organized to create a playground and competitive environment for athletes across the country. This has been an ideal competitive and training environment for young Vietnamese Chess talents over the past years. In addition to competing for rankings between units, the tournament also aims to evaluate the professional level of athletes; at the same time, select forces to compete in upcoming national and international tournaments.

Grandmaster Vo Thi Kim Phung shared that this was the first time she participated in the Team Chess Championship under the Ba Ria-Vung Tau colors. She hopes to bring the best results for the home team. Ms. Vo Thi Kim Phung added that almost all the strongest athletes in the Vietnamese Chess community were present at the Tournament. This is both an opportunity and a great challenge, the athletes have more opportunities to compete and learn from their seniors in terms of technique, tactics, and competitive spirit.

After the opening ceremony, on the morning of April 13, athletes competed in 3 rapid chess matches.

The tournament takes place from April 13 to 20, 2024. At the end of the tournament, the Organizing Committee will award many sets of medals in the competition events.
