Acute rash with blisters, pustules, fever above 38.5 degrees, swollen lymph nodes... are some easily recognizable symptoms after contact with infected or suspected cases, or personal belongings of infected people.
The monkeypox virus is spread through close contact, such as unprotected sex, skin-to-skin contact, and talking or breathing near another person. The disease causes flu-like symptoms, skin lesions, and can be fatal. About 4 out of every 100 cases are fatal.
In 2024, the Philippines detected its first case of monkeypox. Other countries such as China and Pakistan have had to strengthen entry quarantines to prevent the virus. In Central and Central Africa, the virus has spread throughout the region... Scientists have expressed concern about the speed of spread of the new variant as well as the high mortality rate.
