On the morning of December 20, VNPT Group announced the commercialization of 5G network for VinaPhone users nationwide, 8 months after receiving the license.

Current users of VinaPhone's 4G packages can be automatically upgraded to 5G, provided they use devices that support the new technology and are in a coverage area. In addition, the network also offers large capacity packages exclusively for 5G users, priced at VND199,000-349,000, allowing users to use 240-300 GB per month, equivalent to 8-10 GB per day, along with some incentives for calling, texting, and free viewing of some popular social networking services.

The network operator said it will deploy 5G using the world's latest standard, 64T64R Massive MIMO & Beamforming, using a 5 nm chipset. This network uses a hybrid architecture platform of 5G SA and 5G NSA (5G standalone and non-standalone). The initial deployment locations will focus on key socio-economic areas such as district administrative centers, industrial parks, seaports, airports, schools, hospitals, and tourist areas.

Unlike Viettel's 5G network deployed in October on the 2,500-2,600 MHz band, VinaPhone's 5G uses the 3,700-3,800 Mhz band, theoretically covering a smaller station, but with higher speeds. VinaPhone said the network can reach 1.5 Gbps, 10-20 times faster than 4G, and users "immediately feel superior speed", especially with services that require large bandwidth and low latency such as cloud gaming, livestreaming, watching 4K/8K/360 videos, and can also be broadcast via wifi to share with other devices.

Along with 5G for end users, VinaPhone said it will deploy Private 5G Network solutions for industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and education; personalize the network according to needs using Network Slicing; and design pre-designed application models to optimize the needs of each industry group.

The network operator said it will continue to expand coverage in 2025, aiming to cover 85% of the population in the near future. According to the frequency auction requirements, the winning bidder must deploy the service within 12 months from the date of licensing and must have at least 3,000 5G broadcasting stations after two years.
