Nearly 100kg of drugs disguised in fish sauce basket, 3 people sentenced to death

On December 12, Ho Chi Minh City People's Court opened the first instance trial of defendants Le Thanh Hung (31 years old, from Dak Lak, temporarily residing in Binh Chanh district), Ho Hoang Nam (30 years old, residing in district 12) for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking"; Huynh Van Thong (48 years old, from Tay Ninh) for the crime of "Illegal drug transportation".

According to the prosecution, at around 3:00 p.m. on August 19, 2021, the Department of Investigation Police on Drug Crimes - Ho Chi Minh City Police in coordination with the Department of Investigation Police on Drug Crimes and a number of units discovered and caught Le Thanh Hung and Ho Hoang Nam in the act of "Illegal trading of drugs", disguised in 4 baskets of fish sauce and salt.

According to Hung's statement, in early July 2021, he met a subject named Jimmy (living in Cambodia, unknown origin).

Then, Jimmy asked Hung to receive his drugs from Cambodia to Ho Chi Minh City and deliver them to customers and get paid.

Greedy, Hung agreed and successfully received and delivered drugs to Jimmy's customers twice for a fee of 100 million VND. On the third time, Jimmy called to inform that he would deliver 60kg of crystal meth, ecstasy, and heroin for a fee of 300 million VND.

When he arrived at the location where Jimmy sent the goods, he saw Huynh Van Thong (Jimmy's man) waiting. After receiving the drugs from Thong, Hung rented a car to the location Nam had prepared in advance in District 12.

However, when Hung and Nam were carrying drugs down from the car, they were discovered and arrested by the police.

The investigation agency also clarified that not only did Hung agree to work for Jimmy, he also bought 5kg of drugs from this person to resell to Ho Hoang Nam and customers for profit.

In addition, Nam was also identified as the person who organized the drug gathering place every time Jimmy transferred it to Hung.

The investigation agency determined that, up to the time of arrest, Hung and his accomplices had successfully transported nearly 100kg of various drugs to Ho Chi Minh City.

At today's trial, the defendants confessed to the crimes as charged in the indictment.

Considering that the defendants' behavior is especially dangerous, it is necessary to deal with it seriously for general deterrence and prevention.

Therefore, after consideration, the People's Court decided to sentence all three defendants Hung, Nam and Thong to death.
