Following the instructions of people impersonating police officers, a woman in Hanoi installed fake public service software and lost nearly 6 billion VND.

On the morning of June 12, Hoai Duc District Police (Hanoi) said they were investigating and verifying the case of a woman who installed fake public service software and lost nearly 6 billion VND.

Specifically, on May 23, Ms. H. (born in 1984, in Hoai Duc) received a call from a person claiming to be a police officer asking her to download a public service app to create a level 2 identification.

The subject then sent her a link to install fake public service software. After the installation was complete, Ms. H. had her phone taken over and lost nearly 6 billion VND.

From the above incident, Hanoi Police recommends that people be vigilant against the above tricks. Absolutely do not install software or applications as requested by strangers calling.

If the fake software is installed, the installer risks having full control of the phone taken over. Messages and calls to the victim's phone will be controlled by the application, secretly transferred to a server managed by the subject and not displayed on the victim's phone.

More dangerously, the subjects remotely take control of the mobile phone, then access the account and transfer money of the victim.

When encountering cases showing signs of fraud, people need to promptly report to the nearest police agency to prevent and handle them according to the provisions of the law.

In addition, Hanoi Police also pointed out that scammers often impersonate police agencies to call people to instruct them on how to install fake public service software and then appropriate their property.

The impersonators call people to inform them that their citizen identification cards are faulty or that they need to update their resident data and identification codes, then ask them to come to the police station to work.

Next, the subjects will pressure people with the excuse of needing to urgently complete the documents to request them to download fake public service software via the link provided by the subject.

When installing this fake software, the subjects will take control of the phone, making money transfers from bank account information and payment applications saved on the phone.
