NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed the information on October 12. Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg emphasized: “This is a regular training event that takes place every October. This year, the training will be held in Italy, Croatia and the Mediterranean.” This exercise is called “Steadfast Noon”.

The Associated Press (USA) reported that “Steadfast Noon” is held annually and lasts about a week. This exercise involves fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear warheads but does not use live bombs. Surveillance aircraft and refueling aircraft also regularly participate in this exercise.

Mr Stoltenberg added that the exercise would help ensure the reliability, effectiveness and security of NATO's nuclear deterrent, and send a clear message that NATO will defend all its members.

“Steadfast Noon” will run from October 16 to 26. It is expected to involve 13 NATO members and a variety of aircraft, including advanced fighter jets and US B-52 bombers. Most of the exercise will be held at least 1,000 km from the Russian border.

NATO does not possess nuclear weapons. As a military bloc, NATO does not possess any weapons; only member states possess weapons.
