The Russian Foreign Ministry said on February 28 that it had proposed to the United States to resume direct flights between the two countries during talks in Istanbul, Turkey, on February 27, where the two sides discussed “many unpleasant issues” in bilateral relations.

In another statement the same day, the Russian Foreign Ministry praised the latest round of talks with the US, calling it a “substantive and constructive” discussion.

Russian and US delegations held six hours of talks in Türkiye in an effort to restore normal operations of their embassies.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that initial contacts with the new administration of his US counterpart Donald Trump have brought hope.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the delegations discussed issues related to what it called the illegal seizure of Russian diplomatic property in the United States. The agency confirmed that the two sides agreed on steps to restore the continued funding and normal functioning of the two countries' embassies.
