US President Donald Trump said he was having "serious discussions" with Russia not only about ending the conflict in Ukraine but also about "major economic development deals".

The above content was announced by the White House owner in an article posted on social media on February 24 (local time). However, Mr. Trump did not mention too much detail about those economic transactions.

"We're trying to do some economic development deals. They have a lot of things that we want, and we'll see. I mean, I don't know if it's going to happen, but we'd love to be able to do it if we can," Trump said.

"You know, they have tremendous reserves of rare earths... they have very valuable things that we can use, and we have things that they can use, and it would be great if we could do that. I think it would be very good for world peace," Mr. Trump emphasized.

According to the Russian news agency Tass, in a conversation with VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin, Russian President Putin said that Moscow is ready to resume aluminum supplies to the US market and sell about 2 million tons of this metal to the US annually, which will help keep prices low.

“If we decide to open the US market to our producers, we can sell about 2 million tons there. This will not significantly affect prices, but in my opinion, it will still have a limiting effect on price stability,” Putin said.

The Russian leader also noted that in 2017, Russia accounted for about 15% of all aluminum imports to the US. "In general, if I remember correctly, the US produces about 60% of the aluminum it needs and imports 40%," President Putin recalled, adding that of this, 15% comes from Russia, while the main importer today is Canada."

Besides, Mr. Putin also said: "Russia is one of the undisputed leaders in the reserves of these rare earth metals. We have them in the North, in Murmansk, and in the Caucasus, in Kabardino-Balkaria, and in the Far East, in the Irkutsk region, in Yakutia and Tyva (republics)".

The head of state added that Russia would be happy to cooperate with any foreign partners in the rare earth metals industry, including the United States. "These are investments, capital-intensive projects," Putin noted.

In recent days, Russia and the US have made many moves to "thaw" their previous relationship. According to Russia's Tass news agency, US President Trump said he was ready to visit Moscow at an "appropriate" time and May 9 may be too soon.

Regarding the mineral issue, according to Reuters, US President Donald Trump said he could meet with Ukrainian President Zelensky to sign a mineral agreement. According to Mr. Trump, the Ukrainian president could come to Washington this week or next week.
