Liu, a sophomore at Jiangsu University (China), always thinks he is "as handsome as a male god".
Liu began developing symptoms in early February. Even when alone, he could not calm down and was always obsessed with his attractiveness, unable to sleep peacefully.
Liu's illness became more and more serious, to the point that he began to show affection to many female students in school, causing trouble for his classmates, and even engaging in inappropriate behavior.
In late March, Liu's family took him to Huai'an Third People's Hospital in Jiangsu Province for treatment. There, he was diagnosed with "love delusions," a mental illness commonly known as "peach blossom epilepsy."
Doctor Lu Zhenjiao, who treated Liu, said that when he first arrived at the hospital, the male student always insisted that "all the girls in the school liked me." He also thought he was the most handsome person in the school. Due to his constant excitement, Liu lost concentration in class and spent money lavishly.
Peach blossom epilepsy usually occurs in spring from March to April. The change in weather causes the body's hormone levels to fluctuate, and people with this condition will feel very capable, and at the same time, they will experience nymphomania.
Doctor Tan Xi, Chengdu No. 4 People's Hospital added that peach blossom epilepsy is a type of schizophrenia, in which patients are convinced that someone is in love with them, even if the other person rejects them, they still think they are testing them.
Tan Xi reminded that in spring, many people with problems are prone to depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, and sleep disorders. Patients with a history of previous illnesses are also prone to relapse. Therefore, it is necessary to seek the help of a psychiatrist or psychologist in time.
Liu's condition is now gradually improving after psychotherapy and medication.
