US and Singapore form AI governance task force

The United States and Singapore plan to establish a bilateral artificial intelligence (AI) governance group to implement the United States' voluntary AI commitments, as well as establish a potential multilateral Code of Conduct in the field.

In an announcement on October 12, the White House said the group will focus on promoting common principles and enhancing information exchange towards safe, trustworthy and responsible AI innovation.

The two countries announced the plan at the US-Singapore Critical and Emerging Technology Dialogue (CET) in Washington, DC, with the participation of US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, and Minister for Communications and Information Technology and Minister for Cybersecurity and Smart Nation Josephine Teo. The two countries are expected to strengthen cooperation in the fields of science and research, as well as expand technological cooperation.

Officials attending the CET expressed a desire to promote information sharing and consultation, with a focus on AI safety and security, as well as towards strengthening workforce development efforts.
