A male patient with cardiovascular disease who also tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus has died after nearly a week of intensive treatment. Information from Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City said on April 26.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Ngan, Deputy Head of the Department of Tropical Diseases, Cho Ray Hospital, said that the male patient, born in 1969, residing in Binh Duong province, was transferred to the department on April 17 in a serious condition requiring a ventilator. Previously, the patient had been treated for cardiovascular diseases such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, arrhythmia, heart failure, and myelodysplasia (a type of pre-cancerous hematological disease) at the Department of Cardiology, Cho Ray Hospital. Around mid-April, the patient developed symptoms of fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, suspected of having Covid-19. The patient was then tested and the result was positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus. The patient was immediately transferred to the isolation area of ​​the Department of Tropical Diseases. After nearly a week of intensive treatment, the patient's condition gradually worsened and he died.

According to Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Ngan, from mid-April 2023, the unit began receiving treatment for patients withCovid-19, on average, 1-2 new cases are admitted each day. Most of the cases have underlying diseases such as diabetes, heart failure, heart valve disease, chronic lung disease, and immunodeficiency. When transferred to the Department of Tropical Diseases, most of these patients must undergo mechanical ventilation or dialysis. Doctor Thuy Ngan recommends that these people need to be fully vaccinated, follow the 2K principle, wear masks, disinfect and limit going to crowded places.
