Each hectare of N8 turmeric in Hoang Hoa Tham commune (Chi Linh) can earn a profit of 150 million VND.

In 2024, the Plant Resources Center (Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences) will build a 3-hectare N8 turmeric growing model, with 10 households in Hoang Hoa Tham commune participating. In addition, there are 40 households growing but not included in the model.

When first planted, the cold weather and little rain affected the uniformity of the sprouts and the sprouting time was also longer than usual. However, the sprouting rate of N8 turmeric was still over 98%, with a uniformity of 95%. The turmeric plant grew and developed quickly, with few pests and diseases.

N8 turmeric has a growing period of 280-300 days, depending on cultivation conditions, and will be harvested in early or mid-December. This year, Hoang Minh Chau Company Limited (Hung Yen) will purchase all products from farmers (if they meet quality requirements), so there is no need to worry about output.

N8 turmeric has been tested in Hoang Hoa Tham commune since 2023. The results show that the yield reaches 32 tons/ha, with a selling price of 13,000 VND/kg, after deducting costs, farmers can earn a profit of 150 million VND/ha.

The highlight of N8 turmeric is that it can be intercropped with many other plants such as banana, dragon fruit, lychee... which will help increase soil moisture and farmers can profit from these crops.

That is the result of the field workshop on the topic "Building a model for commercial production of N8 turmeric variety, associated with linking product consumption in Hai Duong province" organized by the Plant Resources Center on the morning of September 23 in Hoang Hoa Tham commune.
