On the afternoon of October 29, at the Semiconductor Industry Summit, the Vietnam Semiconductor Network was officially launched.

The Vietnam Semiconductor Network will gradually realize the development orientation of the semiconductor industry, making Vietnam a reliable partner in the regional and global semiconductor ecosystem. Thereby enhancing Vietnam's position in the global value chain and modernizing the economy.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung affirmed that Vietnam is committed to actively contributing to the innovation ecosystem of the semiconductor industry in the world. In the near future, we believe that Vietnam will become a reliable partner and an important link in the global semiconductor manufacturing supply chain.

Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said that Vietnam has all the necessary conditions and factors to develop the semiconductor industry. In particular, the Government is always interested in promoting investment cooperation and developing the semiconductor industry.

"Vietnam has developed a human resource development project with the goal of forming a team of 50,000 engineers for this industry by 2030. At the same time, it has built many attractive investment incentive mechanisms for semiconductor companies and corporations. Semiconductor investment projects in the high-tech sector are entitled to the highest incentives within the framework of Vietnamese law," said Minister Dung.

In addition, Vietnam also has an abundant workforce in the field of engineering and technology suitable for the semiconductor industry. In addition, there are prestigious research and training units in the semiconductor field such as: Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Danang University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology... Large enterprises have resources and are ready to cooperate to develop the semiconductor industry such as: Viettel, VNPT, FPT, CMC...

Vietnam has been attracting more and more large corporations in the semiconductor industry from the United States, South Korea, Japan, and European countries. Notably, last September, US President Joe Biden visited Vietnam and upgraded the relationship between the two countries to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership. Thereby, one of the strategic cooperation contents was identified as innovation, including the development of the semiconductor industry.

According to Ms. Linda Tan, Southeast Asia Semiconductor Technology Association (Semi SEA), the model of training and incubation center for semiconductor design in Vietnam as well as the formation of training and research programs for the semiconductor industry at Vietnamese universities are highly appreciated.

Currently, Vietnam is 100% dependent on foreign semiconductor chip supply. Domestic companies include only Viettel High Technology Industry Corporation (VHT) and FPT participating in the chip design stage.

Most domestic companies with foreign investment carry out the stages of microchip design, assembly, and testing.

Vietnam has established the National Innovation Center (NIC) and three high-tech parks in Hoa Lac (Hanoi), Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang with full infrastructure conditions to welcome semiconductor investors with many preferential mechanisms. NIC and these high-tech parks will be an important bridge to support the development of the Vietnamese semiconductor industry ecosystem.

"The Vietnamese Government continues to improve the most favorable and attractive business environment for investors, enterprises, research institutes, and training facilities in the semiconductor industry. Accordingly, investment projects in the semiconductor industry in the high-tech sector are entitled to the highest incentives within the framework of Vietnamese law," Minister Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized.
