Before entering round 6, Vietnam and China both won all 5 rounds, earning 10 points to be in the top 3 teams leading the rankings with India. Therefore, the confrontation between the two teams is expected to be extremely tense, with China of course being rated higher with 3 super grandmasters in the squad.

In the first match, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (Elo 2633) drew with Wei Yi (Elo 2762), who became a grandmaster at the age of 13, after 15 moves. However, the Chinese team took the lead by 1.5-0.5 when Tran Tuan Minh (Elo 2434) lost to Wang Yue (Elo 2637) after 35 moves. The score became 2-1 with a draw after 52 moves in the match between Le Tuan Minh (Elo 2564) and Yu Yangyi (Elo 2703).

This means that the match between Le Quang Liem (Elo 2741) and the reigning world champion Ding Liren (Elo 2736) is decisive. Under great pressure, Quang Liem showed his talent and courage with a better game plan, forcing Liren to think carefully. At the end of the game, Quang Liem, with the advantage of time and more pieces, excellently won after 62 moves.

Thus, the Vietnamese chess team drew 2-2 with China, thereby continuing their unbeaten streak (5 wins, 11 draws) and maintaining their position in the top of the rankings.

In the women's event, the Vietnamese team lost to the Azerbaijan team with a score of 1.5 - 2.5 (1 win, 2 draws, 2 losses) and is still out of the top 20.
