Thanks to the application of advanced farming techniques, glutinous rice variety 415 gives a higher yield of 7-10 quintals/ha compared to traditional farming.
On the morning of May 24, in Quyet Thang commune (Hai Duong city), the Institute of Food Crops and Food Plants organized a field workshop to evaluate the results of building a model of applying advanced farming techniques to produce high-quality commercial sticky rice 415, linked in the chain in some provinces of the Red River Delta.
In the spring crop of 2024, the 415 glutinous rice variety production model will be implemented on a scale of 40 hectares in Quyet Thang communes (Hai Duong city), Pham Kha and Hong Quang communes (Thanh Mien district).
This model applies the technique of tilling the soil with a depth of 25-20 cm to bury straw, pounding, harrowing, leveling the field combined with Trichoderma. This preparation combined with organic fertilizer helps to improve the soil to be loose and increase fertility, balance pH and detoxify the soil, increase the efficiency of fertilizer use. The planting method applies tray seedlings, machine planting. In the post-planting stage, when the rice has more than 2 leaves, it is necessary to keep the water evenly on the field surface with a depth of 5-7 cm, especially after top dressing, it is necessary to keep the water shallow so that the rice can grow concentratedly. In the stage of maximum tillering, it is necessary to drain the water or not pump, do not use water to irrigate and let the field surface dry until the field surface is hard and cracked (about 5-7 days, depending on the weather). After the stage of fertilizing to welcome the panicles, water is poured to flood the field surface, do not water additionally during this stage, continue to let the field dry for the rice roots to grow deeply. 5-7 days before flowering, when flag leaves appear, continue to water and keep water evenly on the field surface until the rice is ripe and red at the tail.
During fertilization, use a balanced amount, suitable for the soil quality, use a granular fertilizer sprayer to ensure uniformity and save labor.
As a result, in the model in Quyet Thang commune, 415 sticky rice has an expected yield of about 60-62 quintals/ha, 7-10 quintals/ha higher than the mass-planted 415 sticky rice variety. The rate of broken grains is 8.2% (mass-planted 415 sticky rice has a rate of broken grains of 8-12% in the spring crop). The production model applying advanced techniques has many outstanding advantages compared to traditional farming methods, giving high yields, reducing investment, limiting the use of pesticides, etc.
