Successful restoration and development of new cultivation process for Kinh Mon golden sticky rice

After a period of implementation, the Institute of Food Crops and Food Plants (Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences), the unit implementing the project "Research on restoration, exploitation and sustainable development of Kinh Mon yellow sticky rice variety" has successfully restored and introduced a new production process for the yellow sticky rice variety - a specialty of Kinh Mon town.

The Project Management Board has produced 4.5 tons of super-original seeds of the Golden Flower Glutinous Rice variety, of which 50 kg are stored in the cold storage of the Institute of Food Crops and Food Plants, 150 kg are handed over to Kinh Mon town to maintain the original seeds. The remaining has been deployed in a field model with a scale of 125 hectares in communes and wards of Kinh Mon town.

In actual cultivation, the rice yield reached 4.81 tons/ha/crop, 0.38 tons/ha/crop higher than the un-restored yellow sticky rice variety, so the profit after deducting costs was 8.82 million VND/ha/crop higher (corresponding to a 23.2% increase).

The project has established a technical process for cultivating the yellow sticky rice variety with 3 factors: season, density and amount of nitrogen fertilizer. The yellow sticky rice variety has the highest efficiency and yield in the sowing season from June 10 to 20, transplanted with a density of 20 clumps/m²Plant 3 seedlings, 25-30 days old, fertilizer level: 1 ton of organic fertilizer (or 8 tons of manure if available) and nitrogen, phosphorus...

On the afternoon of March 26, the Department of Science and Technology organized the acceptance of the results of the implementation of the above project.

The project was evaluated by the Acceptance Council as effective, bringing practical results to farmers and agricultural production.
