Many locations along the Thai Binh and Lai Vu river dykes have been inspected and planted with bamboo to block waves by Hai Duong City.

Officers of the Hai Duong City Dyke Management Department inspect some newly planted wave-breaking bamboo trees along the Thai Binh River dike section through Ngoc Son commune.

According to the leader of the Hai Duong City Dike Management Department, by March 14, the unit had coordinated with the People's Committees of the communes and wards: Viet Hoa, Cam Thuong, Hai Tan and Ngoc Son to complete the planting of 452 bamboo shoots to prevent waves at many locations along the Thai Binh and Lai Vu river dykes. This is the year the city has planted the most bamboo shoots to prevent waves ever.

All the replanted bamboo was handed over to the contracted households. The City Dike Management Department requested the People's Committees of communes and wards where the dikes pass through to continue to review and replant in the missing locations. Regularly inspect, propagate and remind the contracted households to take good care of the wave-blocking bamboo, contributing to the safety of the dike system during heavy floods.

The dykes passing through Hai Duong city basically have bamboo barriers to prevent waves.

Hai Duong City manages about 32 km of dikes, of which the Thai Binh River alone accounts for over 31 km. After storm No. 3 and the adjacent historic flood that occurred in September 2024, many bamboo clumps along the dikes in the city were uprooted, tilted, and died.

Many bamboo clumps have been planted for many years, are old, and have little soil, so they have died or are not at the right density. Some households that have been contracted have not really cared about caring for and protecting the bamboo fences.

With the planting of a large number of new bamboo shoots, the dike routes through Hai Duong city now basically have bamboo to block waves.
