Celebrating the 136th Birthday of President Ton Duc Thang

On the morning of August 20, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang province solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 136th birthday of President Ton Duc Thang (August 20, 1888 - August 20, 2024).

At the ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Van Phuoc, comrades in the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Standing Committee of An Giang Provincial People's Committee and Long Xuyen City, relatives of Uncle Ton and a large number of people respectfully offered flowers and incense to commemorate President Ton Duc Thang.

At the ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Van Phuoc affirmed that President Ton Duc Thang devoted his entire life to the cause of national liberation and unification. The 136th anniversary of President Ton Duc Thang's birthday is an opportunity to review his revolutionary life and his great contributions. We respect and express our deep gratitude to President Ton Duc Thang - a staunch revolutionary soldier of the international communist and workers' movement, a close comrade in arms of the great President Ho Chi Minh. This is also an opportunity for the Party Committee, army and people of An Giang to study and follow the moral example of President Ton Duc Thang.

Proud of the career and revolutionary ethics of President Ton Duc Thang, the Party Committee and people of An Giang vow to unite, strive to study and work, uphold the spirit of self-reliance, promote the spirit of dynamism and creativity, exploit potential strengths, take advantage of opportunities and factors of "heavenly time, favorable terrain, and harmony of people", build An Giang province to constantly develop, worthy of being the homeland of President Ton Duc Thang.

An Giang provincial leaders offer incense to commemorate President Ton Duc Thang

President Ton Duc Thang was born on August 20, 1888 in Ong Ho Islet, An Hoa village, Dinh Thanh commune, Long Xuyen province (now My Hoa Hung commune, Long Xuyen city, An Giang province) in a middle-class farming family.

At the age of 92, with nearly 70 years of continuous revolutionary activities, 27 years as Chairman of the Lien Viet Front and Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and more than 10 years as President, Uncle Ton devoted his entire life to the glorious revolutionary cause of our Party, our people and international friends. With such great contributions, President Ton Duc Thang was the first person to be honored by the Party and the State with the Gold Star Order, the most noble Order; along with many important awards such as the Lenin Order, the Lenin Prize for Peace and Friendship among Nations, and many other noble awards and titles.

Earlier, on the same morning, a working delegation of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang province and Long Xuyen city came to lay flowers at the Monument of President Ton Duc Thang (My Long ward, Long Xuyen city).
