Container truck driver prosecuted for hitting passenger bus on Highway 2

Tuyen Quang Provincial Police prosecuted the container truck driver who caused the tragic accident that killed 6 people on the sleeper bus.

On March 5, the Investigation Police Agency of Tuyen Quang Provincial Police issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused, and detain Le Van Tan (born in 1985, residing in Hoanh Son commune, Kinh Mon town, Hai Duong) for the crime of Violating regulations on road traffic participation, as prescribed in Clause 3, Article 260 of the Penal Code.

Earlier, at around 1:36 a.m. the same day, Mr. Phan Van Quy was driving a passenger bus on the Ha Giang – Hanoi fixed route, traveling on Highway 2, in the direction of Ha Giang – Tuyen Quang. When reaching Tu Quan commune (Yen Son district), the passenger bus collided with a container truck driven by Le Van Tan, which was traveling in the opposite direction.

The accident left 5 people dead on the spot (2 men, 3 women), 1 person died at the hospital, 3 injured people are being treated at a medical facility.

Traffic police quickly tested the alcohol and drug levels of the two drivers but found no violations.

The initial cause was determined to be that the container truck was going on a curve, the driver lost control of his speed, turned left, and collided with a passenger bus going in the opposite direction.

On March 5, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed and issued Official Dispatch No. 17/CD-TTg directing the handling of the consequences of a particularly serious traffic accident in Tuyen Quang province.

The Head of Government directed units to send condolences to the relatives and families of the deceased victims and to encourage and visit the injured victims.

The Prime Minister also asked leaders of Tuyen Quang province and police forces to go to the scene of the accident to direct the handling of the consequences and visit the victims of the accident.

The Prime Minister requested the Minister of Transport to direct the Vietnam Road Administration and relevant units to preside over and coordinate with local authorities to assess the traffic infrastructure on National Highway 2 and other important expressways and national highways. Units should reorganize traffic in the area where the accident occurred to immediately correct any shortcomings or inadequacies (if any).
