Prosecuted 8 defendants who borrowed the name of reporters to extort property

Eight men were prosecuted by the police for allegedly forging degrees to become collaborators and reporters for several newspapers and magazines, then using the name of pressuring the establishments to pay money or else they would write articles reflecting on the matter.

On May 3, the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province announced that the provincial police investigation agency had prosecuted 8 defendants including Do Manh Dung (40 years old), Dao Van The (44 years old), Hoang Van Huu (33 years old), Vu Hoang Binh (37 years old), Dao Dinh Luyen (47 years old), Nguyen Viet Kien (39 years old), Do Van Hung (43 years old), Luu Van Tuyen (56 years old, all residing in Thai Nguyen province) to investigate the crime of extortion.

Police determined that the above defendants had forged their degrees to apply to become collaborators and reporters for a number of newspapers and magazines.

Then, in the name of reporters and collaborators, these defendants went to agencies, enterprises, organizations, and business households to collect information related to the operations, business, and production of the establishments.

When finding loopholes and shortcomings of the establishments, the defendants put pressure and suggested that the establishments pay money. If the establishments did not pay, the defendants threatened to report to local authorities and write articles reflecting on the matter in the press.

Fearing that information being reported in the press would affect production and business activities, the establishments had to give money to this group.

When a person comes to get money from any facility, he will inform other accomplices, so that they can continue to go to that facility, put pressure on them to extort property.
