Many users, including some in Vietnam, said their iPhones suddenly emitted strange sounds 'from nowhere'.
"My iPhone suddenly made a strange sound even though I didn't open any app. The phone was on the table when it suddenly made a sound. I checked but couldn't determine which app it was from to turn it off," said Tan Luong, currently using an iPhone 16 Pro and updated to iOS 18.2.
On social networks such as Facebook, Reddit, X or TikTok, many people reported that their iPhones also had similar problems. "I can even hear the conversation between two people, even though I did not make a call or turn on any audio application in the background," Facebook account Hoang Huong wrote on an iPhone group.
In the comments section, some people said that the sound emitted was mainly foreign language, no Vietnamese. The incident even appeared late at night, making users "startled".
The problem of iPhones suddenly making strange sounds has been around since November last year. On November 14, 2024, Reddit accountOkStrawberry26said his phone was coming with a man's voice. Another accountReady-eddyheard the sound of "two people talking in a warehouse".
Technology pageWccftechExperts speculate that the bug may stem from the way iOS 18 software connects to nearby devices via Bluetooth. Some even worry that the device is infected with malware and can be remotely controlled by hackers.
Currently the only way to temporarily fix the problem is to reboot or restore factory settings. However, this situation may persist.
Apple has not commented.
A similar situation was also recorded in 2023. At that time, on Apple's user support page, the accountAAnthraxUsing iPhone 8, running iOS 16, says "random voice" comes up and gets 84 "Me too" taps.
Apple's iOS 18 has been plagued with bugs lately. In the latest iOS 18.2 version, many iPhone users, mainly iPhone 15 and 16 generations, reported that their phones' cameras were slow to launch and FaceID was not working after the update. Late last year, the iPhone 16 also had problems shutting down or randomly restarting. In most cases, Apple did not acknowledge the problem and quietly released a new update to fix it.
