Kaspersky Lab has just discovered a never-before-seen malware program that can attack iPhones.

The goal of this virus is to steal data from photos using WannaCry post and OCR.

Kaspersky Lab said the virus was detected on both the App Store and Google Play, infecting 20 fake apps, including popular messaging apps, AI assistants, food delivery programs, and access to cryptocurrency exchanges. When users install and activate the fake program on their devices, the program asks for permission to view photos.

Once it gains access to an iPhone device, the malware uses optical character recognition (OCR) technology to analyze text in images stored in the device's photo library, a company spokesperson explained.

If certain keywords are detected, the software forwards the corresponding photo to the attackers.

Kaspersky Lab representatives said that the programs installed with the above malware were downloaded more than 242,000 times from the Google Play app store.
