Tet gift boxes worth over a hundred thousand dong attract customers

Businesses say Tet gift boxes priced at VND150,000 - VND500,000 are the most popular this year, reflecting the trend of saving when purchasing power is low.

The 2025 Tet gift market is starting up, but recent surveys show that purchasing power has only increased slightly, about 1-3% compared to last year, with a trend focusing on practical and reasonably priced gift boxes.

According to large supermarket chains such as GO!, Lottemart, Co.opmart or Winmart, most of this year's Tet gift products are designed in the price range from 99,000 VND to more than 1.3 million VND.

According to Saigon Co.op representative, gift boxes priced at an average of 150,000-300,000 VND are the most popular choice among consumers.

MM Mega Market also believes that to meet the saving trend, in addition to gift boxes from brands, the system also offers its own branded product line with prices starting from 299,000 VND per box, which is considered the best price to compete in the current context.

On major streets, retail stores are also focusing on affordable gift boxes. Ms. Hoa, a store owner on Phan Dang Luu Street (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City), said that this year she did not import high-end gift baskets but only sold packages priced from 100,000 to 800,000 VND. "In just one week, I have received more than 100 orders for Tet gift baskets," she said.

In addition to individuals, many schools and organizations this year also actively ordered gift baskets in the price range of 130,000-200,000 VND as gifts for teachers or staff.

Faced with increasing demand in the low-price segment, many large enterprises have also changed their strategies to catch up with the market. A representative of Orion Vina said the company has increased the quantity of goods for this year's Tet season by 20-25%, focusing on products priced from VND88,000 to VND500,000. This is the company's strategy to reach consumers in the context that they prioritize looking for Tet gift options with reasonable prices but still ensuring quality.

"Thanks to the diversity of products and reasonable prices, the company has recorded growth in the first weeks of sales," said a representative of Orion Vina.

Similarly, Tuong An also launched a gift basket of spices for the first time at a price of only 95,000-120,000 VND, distributed at 450,000 points of sale and many different channels. Thanks to the reasonable price, the company said the product is very popular.

Assessing this year’s consumer trends, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Nga, Senior Business Development Director at Kantar Worldpanel Vietnam, stated that total spending on fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) during Tet 2025 is expected to increase by 5% compared to last year’s Tet. However, most consumers still prioritize saving and looking for affordable products.

The trend of buying cheap goods, according to Ms. Nga, is covering more product categories because the finances of many households have not fully recovered from the pandemic. With shopping habits usually starting 4-5 weeks before Tet, the market is gradually becoming more active and is expected to explode in the last weeks of December.

In addition to the above companies, other businesses also proactively prepare abundant and diverse goods, focusing on essential products.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, this year, businesses in the area have prepared goods worth VND23,000 billion to serve the 2025 Lunar New Year, an increase of 4.5% compared to last year.

In Hanoi, businesses have proactively increased the quantity of goods by 7-25% depending on the item to meet market demand. The packaging of the products is also designed to be more eye-catching, with outstanding colors, creating a festive atmosphere.
