At GO Hai Duong supermarket (Hai Duong city), products with colorful designs and packaging have been fully arranged on shelves with signs and advertising slogans associated with Tet. Ms. Vu Thi Sen, supermarket director, said that since September, the supermarket has implemented a plan to import goods, negotiate with suppliers, especially connect with suppliers in many provinces and cities to bring agricultural products and regional specialties to the market, ready to serve consumers. This year, the supermarket has divided the import of Tet goods into 3 stages: December 2023, January and February 2024. Up to now, the amount of Tet goods in the supermarket's warehouse has reached about 30%, the products imported early are groups of goods such as dried food, cosmetics... Items such as confectionery, alcohol, beer, soft drinks are gradually imported by the supermarket. As for fresh products for Tet, supermarkets will put them on shelves close to Tet to ensure freshness.

GO Hai Duong Supermarket has about 22,000 items for Tet, an increase of about 5% compared to last year's Tet. These items are from 1,000 domestic and foreign suppliers. According to Ms. Sen, the difference in importing goods for Tet this year is that due to economic difficulties, the supermarket has adjusted to increase many items and products in the mid-range price segment, suitable for consumers' budgets.

At Lan Chi Mart supermarket in Kinh Mon town, the import of goods for Tet is calculated closely to the needs and consumer tastes of the people. The supermarket proactively researches and understands the market situation to develop a suitable plan to stockpile goods, to avoid shortages and to avoid stockpiling after Tet. A supermarket representative said: "The supermarket has 30,000 items for Tet with a total value of about 18 billion VND, an increase of about 10% compared to last year."

According to the representative of the franchise branch of Behapy Vietnam Production and Trading Company Limited (headquartered in Hanoi), the company focuses on the quality of gift baskets, designs, and packaging that are diverse and luxurious. Ms. Luong Thi Ha, representative of the company's franchise branch in Hai Duong, said: "It is expected that the branch will supply the Hai Duong market with about 3,000 gift baskets priced at about 300,000 VND/basket, 500 baskets priced from 700,000-1.5 million VND/basket; the high-end segment will have about 50 baskets priced from 3-5 million VND/basket. The company's Tet gift baskets focus on nutritious, healthy products such as: some types of nutritious nuts (cashews, almonds, macadamia nuts), herbal tea, dried fruit, low-sugar candies, fermented fruit juices...".

Currently, in Hai Duong, there are 186 markets, 3 shopping malls, nearly 80 businesses operating under the supermarket model, 260 retail stores selling gasoline and over 3,000 grocery stores specializing in selling essential goods distributed throughout the province. The network of markets, supermarkets, shopping malls, gas stations and grocery and essential goods businesses always proactively source goods to satisfy people's needs.

Stabilize supply and prices

According to the rules of recent years, purchasing power in the Hai Duong market, especially in urban areas and densely populated areas, will gradually increase in the last months of 2023 and early 2024 due to the circulation and storage of goods between wholesale enterprises and the shopping needs of people during Tet.

The Department of Industry and Trade forecasts that the purchasing power of goods during the 2024 Giap Thin Lunar New Year will increase by about 15% compared to last year's Lunar New Year. To proactively prepare goods to serve the people, the Department of Industry and Trade has requested businesses to improve their responsibility and promote their role in business serving Tet. Goods serving Tet must ensure quality; have prices listed and sold at listed prices to contribute to stabilizing the market and prices. Stores selling Tet goods must commit to keeping prices stable, not suddenly increasing prices, especially on days before Tet, and be ready to increase production when necessary.

On this occasion, the Hai Duong Market Management Department has strengthened market inspection and control activities, focusing on combating smuggling, trading, and transportation of prohibited goods, counterfeit goods, and poor quality goods before, during, and after Tet. Focus on checking the implementation of labeling of goods, especially for food products such as alcohol, soft drinks, cakes, jams, candies, etc.; checking the price listing of businesses serving Tet. Proactively assess the situation, coordinate to monitor activities at gas stations in the area... to avoid hoarding goods, speculation, creating virtual fever during Tet. Prevent and promptly handle the transportation and trading of livestock and poultry of unknown origin...

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, up to this point, the total value of goods serving the 2024 Lunar New Year at supermarkets, businesses, and large distributors in the province has reached more than 1,300 billion VND, an increase of more than 20 billion VND compared to last year's Lunar New Year. This amount of goods will be continuously circulated and continue to be gathered in the 45 days before Tet and will be flexibly handled when there is an increase in demand. Thereby contributing to the preparation of essential goods, ensuring quality, food safety and hygiene, stabilizing the market to best serve all consumer needs of the people during the 2024 Lunar New Year.
