Five models Jazz, Civic, CR-V, Accord, City manufactured from September 15, 2017 to January 8, 2019 are recalled to replace fuel pumps.
On May 8, Japanese car manufacturer Honda announced a recall of 5 car models in the Vietnamese market. The reason for the recall, according to the announcement, is to fix the fuel pump impeller being deformed during operation, causing the fuel pump to not work, leading to the engine stalling while driving.
The five recalled models include Honda Jazz, Civic, CR-V, Accord, City. The number of affected vehicles is shown in the table below:
Sample | Source | Production time | Quantity (pieces) |
Jazz | Thailand | 14/12/2017 - 05/6/2018 | 1,290 |
Civic | Thailand | 07/12/2017 - 29/6/2018 | 1,560 |
CR-V | Thailand | 01/12/2017 - 28/6/2018 | 4,470 |
Accord | Thailand | 04/01/2018 - 04/6/2018 | 240 |
City | Vietnam | 15/9/2017 - 08/01/2019 | 6.602 |
Total | 14,162 |
In addition to the 14,162 recalled vehicles, the Japanese automaker identified 68 other customers who own City (28 vehicles), Civic (5 vehicles), CR-V (34 vehicles), and Odyssey (1 vehicle) manufactured between June 27, 2017 and July 11, 2023. These 68 customers have a history of replacing fuel pump parts, so they need to be recalled for inspection and replacement if necessary.
Honda said it has not recorded any unsafe cases related to fuel pump failures in the Vietnamese market.
Fuel pump failure has not "let go" of Japanese car manufacturers in recent years, when manufacturers use the same fuel pump provided by the Denso brand. In Vietnam, in addition to Honda, Toyota, Lexus, and Mitsubishi have also recalled vehicles many times to replace Denso fuel pumps.
