Mazda is planning to stop producing three familiar car models in the Vietnamese market, including the Mazda 2 sedan, Mazda 6 and CX-3 SUV.
Mazda is a familiar brand to Vietnamese consumers, known for its strong, dynamic style and luxurious KODO design. The company's models are always an attractive choice in the popular car segment, especially attracting young car owners.
However, after 2025, some Mazda models that have been associated with Vietnamese customers may be discontinued. Some segments are even at risk of being completely eliminated due to the company's new product orientation.
Mazda 2 – The end of the B-class mini sedan
The Mazda 2 is currently in its second generation, having been launched in 2014 and undergoing Facelift upgrades in 2019 and 2023. However, these improvements are not enough to refresh a model that has become old and gradually lost its appeal. By the end of 2025, the Mazda 2 production line will officially stop operating, and so far there has been no information about the successor model in the B-class urban car segment of the company.
In Vietnam, Mazda 2 competes directly with models such as Toyota Vios, Honda City, Hyundai Accent, KIA Soluto, Suzuki Ciaz and Mitsubishi Attrage. Although sales in 2024 reached 5,092 units, an increase of 26.7% compared to 2023, this model still faces many difficulties when facing strong competitors in the segment.
Mazda 6 - The obstacle to Toyota Camry and a regrettable farewell
Mazda 6 used to be Mazda's flagship D-class sedan, popular in many international markets, including Vietnam. The current version is the second generation, launched in 2012, although it has undergone several upgrades but has increasingly lost its appeal as it no longer meets consumer tastes.
This model has been withdrawn from the North American market since 2021, stopped distribution in the UK since 2023 and officially died in Japan in 2024. After 2025, the Mazda 6 will be completely eliminated globally.
Despite its success in Vietnam, the Mazda 6 is currently in a serious "unsold" situation, with only 612 cars sold in 2024, down 44% compared to 2023. Not only the Mazda 6, this is also a general trend in the D-class sedan segment, as consumers increasingly prioritize multi-purpose high-chassis vehicles. However, the Toyota Camry is still an exception as it continues to maintain its strong appeal in the market.
Mazda CX-3 – An ambitious but uninspiring small SUV
The Mazda CX-3 is a B-class urban SUV aimed at customers who love compactness, flexibility and ease of movement on crowded roads. However, this model has not achieved the same success as its predecessor, the CX-5, when it sold only 2,745 vehicles in 2024 in Vietnam, ranking 7th in sales in the segment. This shows the fierce competition of B-class SUVs, while the CX-3 lacks the necessary breakthroughs. Therefore, this model will be officially discontinued after 2025.
However, unlike the sedans that are about to be discontinued, the B-size SUV segment is still a potential market that many car manufacturers are targeting. Therefore, Mazda is developing a new model to succeed the CX-3 in the near future.
