The emergency NSC meeting, chaired by Deputy National Security Adviser Lim Jong-deuk, was held to discuss measures for the military to maintain readiness to deal with potential threats.
On the morning of September 2, the South Korean National Security Council (NSC) convened an emergency meeting following North Korea's missile launch the same day.
According to Yonhap news agency, an official at the South Korean Presidential Office said the meeting, chaired by Deputy National Security Adviser Lim Jong-deuk, was to discuss measures for the military to maintain readiness to deal with potential threats.
Earlier, on the same morning, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced that North Korea launched several cruise missiles at around 4:00 a.m. on September 2 local time.
The missile launch came days after South Korea and the United States concluded their annual large-scale military exercise called Ulchi Freedom Shield, which lasted from August 21 to 31.
North Korea strongly opposes this exercise as well as previous exercises by the US and South Korea, saying it is a preparation for war.
