Ford CEO Jim Farley has been driving a Xiaomi SU7 for the past six months and doesn't want to give up the electric vehicle.

In a conversation with Robert Llewellyn, host of the Fully Charged podcast, Farley revealed that his go-to car is the SU7, the first product from smartphone maker Xiaomi.

Although the SU7 is not sold outside of China, Ford shipped one to the US for evaluation.

“We sent one from Shanghai to Chicago, and I’ve been driving it for six months now. I don’t want to give it up,” Farley said, noting the fierce competition from Chinese automakers for Ford.

“It was amazing,” Farley added. “They were selling 10,000-20,000 a month and were sold out in six months.”

However, not everything has been smooth sailing for Xiaomi as it suffered a loss of $9,200 per car sold in the first half of this year.

The SU7 isn’t the first Chinese car to impress the Ford CEO. According to the Wall Street Journal, Farley and CFO John Lawler were blown away when they tested an electric vehicle from Changan in early 2023.

“They’re way ahead of us,” Lawler once told Farley, describing the Chinese auto industry as an “existential threat” to Ford.
