On August 7, in Ghenh Rang Ward, Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province, the International Conference “Windows to the Universe” organized by the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE Center) in collaboration with the Vietnam Rencontres du Sciences Association, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the People's Committee of Binh Dinh Province officially opened with the participation of nearly 200 scientists and international speakers.
This is considered an academic forum for domestic and international scientists to cooperate in science, exchange and discuss the latest discoveries in the fields of Elementary Particle Physics, High Energy Physics and Astronomy; at the same time, share knowledge and present research results on the latest advances in these sciences.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Professor Tran Thanh Van, Chairman of the Rencontres du Vietnam Association, emphasized that the conference creates conditions for young researchers to present their ideas and participate in discussions with accomplished scientists in this field, thereby creating scientific cooperation and development for young scientists in the basic science community to exchange knowledge and international cooperation in Particle Physics and Astronomy.
Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat informed that the Party and State always pay attention to the development of basic science because it is the foundation and premise for science and technology of each country.
Basic Science in Vietnam in general and Physics in Vietnam in particular have made many developments in the past 10 years. The Vietnamese Government has established the National Fund for Science and Technology Development to finance the fields of Basic Science from the state budget.
Since 2008, the Fund has funded thousands of basic research projects, helping to increase the number of international publications by Vietnamese scientists.
Since 2017, UNESCO has recognized and sponsored the International Center for Physics under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology as a type 2 scientific center, within the network of UNESCO International Scientific Centers.
Vietnamese science also contributes to world science through practical initiatives, serving the United Nations' sustainable development goals.
The Minister also hopes that at the conference, scientists will discuss professional issues and how science can contribute the most to socio-economic development. At the same time, scientists will give many suggestions to policy makers and managers on methods, roadmaps and valuable experiences of developed countries for Vietnam in terms of development and sustainable development.
Binh Dinh Provincial Party Secretary Ho Quoc Dung said that Binh Dinh is a land of studiousness, love for science and respect for knowledge. Building this place into a destination for scientists has always been of interest and focus to generations of provincial leaders, considering it a new direction in the province's economic development strategy.
Since its inception (2013), the ICISE Center has hosted nearly 150 international scientific conferences and more than 45 specialized scientific schools with the participation of nearly 10,000 scientists from 35 countries and territories, including 18 Nobel Prize-winning professors and 2 Fields Medal-winning professors (Nobel Prize in Mathematics).
To make science and technology a driving force for growth, the province is urgently implementing the construction of Quy Hoa Science Urban Area with the goal of turning Quy Nhon into a typical science-education city of the country.
The urban area has an area of 242 hectares. Currently, there are a number of projects in operation such as: TMA Creative Park Project; Software Park Project; Science Space Complex with a Planetarium, a popular astronomical observatory and a Children's Area.
“I believe that in the near future, many valuable scientific research projects will be born from this land, contributing to the continuous development of the country's science. The province is committed to always accompanying the Rencontres du Vietnam and the ICISE Center," said Binh Dinh Provincial Party Secretary Ho Quoc Dung.
The conference will have 31 sessions with plenary sessions and specialized sessions on Astrophysics and High Energy Physics.
On the sidelines of academic activities, the Conference also organized tours for international scientists to learn about local cultural history and famous tourist attractions such as Ky Co, Quang Trung Museum, Twin Towers, Banh It Tower...
