The European Union (EU) has extended all sanctions against Russia by another six months, until January 31, 2025.
The decision includes sanctions imposed in 2014 after Russia annexed Crimea and new measures imposed from 2022 as Russia conducts a special military operation in Ukraine.
To date, the EU has imposed a total of 14 sanctions on Russia, including restrictive measures in the trade, financial, technological, industrial, and transport sectors, as well as restrictions on imports of oil and petrochemical products from Russia, and restrictions on exports to Russia of luxury goods and dual-use goods.
The EU also imposes sanctions on actions aimed at “circumventing” sanctions.
Russia considers the sanctions illegal and unconstructive. Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that one of the conditions for resolving the situation in Ukraine is the lifting of all sanctions against Russia.
