Many businesses in the province are rushing to recruit seasonal workers to complete year-end orders, but the supply of this labor is scarce.

To prepare for production and business at the end of the year, many businesses are recruiting a large number of seasonal workers but encounter many difficulties.

Great demand

Currently, many businesses in the province are starting to increase recruitment targets, especially for part-time and seasonal jobs to complete year-end orders and supplement the labor force for 2023. Recruitment trends at this time often focus on industries related to trade and services, followed by mechanical, electronic, textile, footwear, construction, etc. A representative of the Provincial Center for Employment Services and Support for Industrial Park Enterprises (IPs) said that the demand for labor recruitment of businesses at the end of the year is quite large. Currently, there are about 30 businesses in the IPs needing to recruit 3,000 seasonal workers, an increase of about 30% over the same period last year.

UMC Electronics Co., Ltd. in Tan Truong Industrial Park is recruiting 200 seasonal workers with salaries ranging from 7-10 million VND/person/month. In addition to high salaries, the company also supports training to improve skills for seasonal workers. If they meet the requirements, the company will sign annual contracts with many incentives in terms of salary and bonuses to retain workers. On this occasion, LLCs: Nishoku Technology, Prettl Vietnam, SD Global, Brother Industry... are also recruiting from 100-300 seasonal workers.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tuyen Huan, Director of Vietnam Human Resources Supply and Training Joint Stock Company, this year, the demand for recruiting seasonal workers has increased because businesses are boosting production after the Covid-19 pandemic. On the other hand, using seasonal workers will help businesses be flexible in terms of personnel. Companies can increase the number of workers when the peak season comes or reduce staff when the peak period has passed without being dependent on long-term labor contracts. In addition, seasonal workers can also quickly overcome sudden labor shortages such as sick leave, maternity leave, business trips, etc. "We are supplying about 1,000 seasonal workers to nearly 20 businesses in the province. It is expected that from now until the end of the year, the demand for recruiting workers will continue to increase, requiring suppliers to step up propaganda and proactively supply labor," said Mr. Huan.

Khan labor

Despite the high demand for recruitment, the supply of seasonal labor is currently quite scarce. Some businesses have completed factories and installed machinery but still do not have workers. For example, Vietstar Company Limited in Doan Tung Industrial Park (Thanh Mien) has completed its factory for a long time but has not been able to recruit workers due to limited supply. Even the regular labor force in the production lines has only reached about 75%. On the other hand, the recruitment requirements of this business are also a barrier for labor supply units. "We need about 200 workers but must meet two main requirements. That is, women must be between 18 and 35 years old and in a group of 10 workers, there must be 3 men and 7 women," said an officer of the company's human resources department.

Currently, labor supply units have implemented many measures such as hanging banners, posting recruitment notices on social networks... but the results are not very positive. According to some labor supply units, Hai Duong is using seasonal labor mainly from mountainous provinces. In the middle of the year, the demand for labor recruitment is not high, so this potential labor force has found other "landing places".

Camex Vietnam Company Limited in Ung Hoe commune (Ninh Giang) has difficulty recruiting seasonal workers.

To cope with the shortage of seasonal labor at the end of the year, businesses have to work and recruit at the same time. However, accepting workers in small batches will make training take more time and effort. Camex Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Ung Hoe commune (Ninh Giang) specializes in manufacturing precision springs, stamping parts and mechanical products and is in need of recruiting 20 seasonal workers with salaries ranging from 7-9 million VND/person/month. Although the notice has been posted for nearly a month, the company has not yet recruited enough workers. "The New Year and Lunar New Year holidays are approaching while the number of year-end orders is increasing, forcing us to step up production from now. Seasonal labor is the most suitable choice at this time, but the supply is quite scarce. If we do not recruit enough workers this month, it will easily affect year-end orders," said Mr. Nguyen Van Chinh, Director of Camex Vietnam Co., Ltd.

The shortage of labor resources at the end of the year will affect business operations. In addition to job introduction centers and labor supply units strengthening the organization of job exchanges, making efforts to connect and help businesses arrange enough labor, businesses themselves must also proactively respond to the situation of labor shortage at the end of the year.
