On November 11, the preliminary results of the 2024 general election in the US showed that the Republican Party won control of the 119th House of Representatives in the US Congress, thereby ending a victorious election season.

According to the US Federal Election Commission, as of 9:00 p.m. on November 11, US Eastern Time (9:00 a.m. on November 12, Vietnam Time), the Republican Party won 219 out of 435 seats in the House of Representatives, surpassing the 218-vote threshold required by law to become the majority in this legislative body, while the Democratic Party only had 210 votes.

The Republicans' gains come after decisive victories in Nebraska, California and Pennsylvania. Their slim majority could be strengthened when the final vote counts in California and Alaska are announced.

The House of Representatives victory capped off an unexpectedly successful election season for the Republican Party, which had seen its candidate, Donald Trump, win the presidential election by a landslide with 312 electoral votes, far surpassing Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

Besides, although the final vote count has not been announced, the Republican Party has also firmly taken control of the US Senate with 52 Senator seats.

Thus, for at least the next two years, the Republican Party will have full control of the White House (executive branch) and both houses of the US Congress (legislative branch).

The new 119th Congressmen and Senators are scheduled to be sworn in early January 2025. President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in on January 20, 2025.
