Korean goalkeeper coach Lee Woon Jae said goodbye to the Vietnamese team after his contract with VFF expired.
After finishing the 2024 ASEAN Cup with the Vietnamese team as champions, Korean goalkeeper coach Lee Woon's contract with the VFF expired. Mr. Lee Woon Jae and the VFF did not renew their contract, officially saying goodbye to each other.
According to VFF's assessment, goalkeeper coach Lee Woon Jae is very enthusiastic about his work, has high expertise, and a lot of experience because he has participated in the World Cup 4 times with the Korean team.
In the decisions on using goalkeepers in the ASEAN Cup, coach Kim Sang Sik always consulted with Mr. Lee Woon Jae, in which the highlight was choosing Dinh Trieu as the main goalkeeper instead of Nguyen Filip. That was a very correct decision when the goalkeeper of Hai Phong Club played impressively, contributing greatly to helping the Vietnamese team win the championship, and also winning the Best Goalkeeper award of the tournament.
After parting ways with goalkeeper coach Lee Woon Jae, coach Kim Sang Sik and VFF will find someone else to coach the Vietnamese national team.
Also related to the team's personnel issue, there is information that former player Park Ji Sung will be an assistant to coach Kim Sang Sik, however the Korean strategist and VFF have not officially confirmed.
According to the plan, the Vietnamese team will gather again in March to prepare for the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup. In this tournament, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team are in Group F with Malaysia, Nepal and Laos. The task of Quang Hai and his teammates is to win the top spot in the group to participate in the Asian Cup Finals.
