VFF confirmed that Cambodia is the first opponent of the Vietnamese team after winning the ASEAN Cup 2024.
The Vietnam national football team will play a friendly match against Cambodia on March 19 at Binh Duong Stadium. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced on the morning of February 8. This is the first official match of the Vietnam national football team after winning the 2024 ASEAN Cup.
"At the request of head coach Kim Sang-sik, the Vietnam Football Federation has contacted a number of teams with quality and playing styles suitable for the preparation of the Vietnam team for the match against the Laos team in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.
After receiving information from the Vietnam Football Federation, the Cambodian Football Federation agreed to participate. Currently, the two Federations are implementing the necessary procedures to organize the match," VFF informed.
The match against Cambodia is a practice match for the Vietnamese team before the first challenge in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will face the Laos team at home on March 25.
The last time the Vietnamese team played against Cambodia was a 4-0 victory in the group stage of the AFF Cup 2020 (in December 2021). Nguyen Tien Linh scored 2 goals. Bui Tien Dung and Nguyen Quang Hai were the authors of the remaining 2 goals.
At the 2024 ASEAN Cup, the Cambodian team impressed despite not making it past the group stage. The team led by coach Koji Gyotoku drew 2-2 with Malaysia, beat Timor Leste 2-1 and only lost by a narrow margin to the top two teams Singapore and Thailand.
