Cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike announced on July 19 that it had deployed a fix for the incident that caused disruptions to a range of businesses operating in sectors such as aviation, finance, and healthcare around the world.

“This is not a security incident or cyber attack,” Crowdstrike CEO George Kurtz said in a post on the X platform. “The issue has been identified, contained, and a fix has been deployed. We deeply apologize for the impact on our customers, travelers, and the public.” Mr. Kurtz also affirmed that Crowdstrike ensures that service will be fully restored to all customers.

The problem stems from a bug in an update for computers running Microsoft Windows, Kurtz said. Mac and Linux computers are not affected.

Crowdstrike's notice to customers explained that the Falcon Sensor software was causing computers running Microsoft Windows to crash and display a blue screen.

Tourism was the industry hardest hit by the incident, as computer systems at airports around the world were disrupted, leading to flight delays.

In its latest announcement, Microsoft also confirmed that it had found the root cause and fixed the problem that caused the corporation's 365 applications and services to stop working, including Teams and OneDrive. However, many other Microsoft customers are still unable to return to normal operations.

Founded in 2011 in the US, CrowdStrike is a company that provides cloud-based security solutions to businesses in more than 170 countries around the world.

CrowdStrike's Falcon Sensor software is tasked with identifying unusual behavior and security vulnerabilities, thereby protecting computer systems from threats such as malware.
