Viettel AI's face recognition capability based on the angle is ranked in the top 4 among solutions measured by NIST.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), US Department of Commerce, announced the results after evaluating facial recognition technology of 133 solutions worldwide from July 2023.
Among the 8 measurement categories, Viettel AI's technology, code vtcc_001, reached the top 10 in 5 categories, such as non-frontal photos, low resolution, poor lighting. Of which, the highest ranking was top 4 in the 90-degree face recognition category (Mugshot-Profile 90). Ranking above vtcc_001 are the technologies of Cloudwalk, Megvii (China) and NEC (Japan).
The test, called FRTE 1:N Identification, has been periodically scoring recognition algorithms since 2000. It tests the suitability of biometric facial recognition algorithms used in civilian and law enforcement applications. The search and recognition methods are required to be processed on a computer in less than 1.5 seconds, on a data file of 12 million different images. The goal of the test is to find the most accurate and optimal method in terms of processing time, ensuring high practical applicability.
The Vietnamese developer said its facial recognition and search technology is currently integrated into the Viettel eKYC electronic identification solution to solve security problems, detect fraud in opening and verifying accounts, and conduct online transactions. In addition, they are also applied in solutions such as timekeeping, access management at organizations, buildings and towards population management for provinces and cities.
According to the developer, this technology also supports speeding up and improving the efficiency of facial authentication, comparing facial images on identification documents and live photos of customers, with an accuracy rate of over 99% in just a few seconds. In addition, the technology is also used in authenticating chip-embedded citizen identification cards with an accuracy rate of 100%.
