This is the information announced by the Ministry of Transport at the Conference to announce the Master Plan for the development of the national airport and seaport system for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, held on the morning of July 14 in Hanoi.
Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan said that airports are closely related to national defense and security. Aviation planning is the final planning in 5 areas including roads, waterways, maritime and railways. Aviation has the advantage of being fast and easily accessing economic and international centers, but has disadvantages such as high transportation costs. For example, airfares on golden routes such as Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City are not cheap.
Assessing the current situation with 22 airports and the upcoming 30 airports, demonstrating the important role of airports, creating momentum for socio-economic development, the Deputy Minister of Transport requested the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to closely coordinate with localities, the Ministry of National Defense, and relevant agencies to implement this port network planning and review and advise on adjustments because this planning is very open.
“Vietnam has great potential for developing air transport, so planning the system of airports is a premise for investment and development to meet the demand for air transport. If the local economy develops and there is a need for airports, the Ministry of Transport will report to the Government to supplement and adjust the planning,” said Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan.
In the coming time, the Ministry of Transport will complete the project to mobilize investment resources in airports and submit it to the Prime Minister to specify this issue.
According to Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan, the Ministry of Transport identified this as a major and challenging task, so coordination between ministries, sectors and localities is needed. At the same time, it is recommended that provincial People's Committees direct departments and sectors to work with the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to mobilize investment resources, manage land funds, airspace, develop human resources, etc. to complete this planning.
Previously, presenting the planning of airports, Mr. Dinh Viet Thang, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, said that the airport system is planned according to the axis-spoke model with two main transport hubs in the Hanoi capital area and Ho Chi Minh City area.
Specifically, in the 2021-2030 period, 30 airports will be formed, including 14 international airports (Van Don, Cat Bi, Noi Bai, Tho Xuan, Vinh, Phu Bai, Da Nang, Chu Lai, Cam Ranh, Lien Khuong, Long Thanh, Tan Son Nhat, Can Tho and Phu Quoc); 16 domestic airports (Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Sa Pa, Na San, Dong Hoi, Quang Tri, Phu Cat, Tuy Hoa, Pleiku, Buon Ma Thuot, Phan Thiet, Rach Gia, Ca Mau, Con Dao, Thanh Son and Bien Hoa).
By 2050, the country will have 33 airports, including: 14 international airports (Van Don, Hai Phong, Noi Bai, Tho Xuan, Vinh, Phu Bai, Da Nang, Chu Lai, Cam Ranh, Lien Khuong, Long Thanh, Tan Son Nhat, Can Tho and Phu Quoc); 19 domestic airports (Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Sa Pa, Cao Bang, Na San, Cat Bi, Dong Hoi, Quang Tri, Phu Cat, Tuy Hoa, Pleiku, Buon Ma Thuot, Phan Thiet, Rach Gia, Ca Mau, Con Dao, Bien Hoa, Thanh Son and the second airport in the Southeast, South of Hanoi).
In particular, the Hanoi Capital Region is expected to add a second airport to support Noi Bai International Airport when it reaches a scale of about 100 million passengers/year, meeting the goal of forming two regional-scale international transit hubs in the Hanoi Capital Region and Ho Chi Minh City Region.
“With the number of airports planned as above, it will ensure that by 2030 and with a vision to 2050, over 95% of the population can access airports within 100km, higher than the current world average (75%) and equivalent to countries in the region as well as in the world,” Mr. Dinh Viet Thang acknowledged.
According to the leader of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the Master Plan for the development of the national airport and seaport system for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, identifies the arrangement of logistics centers at airports with a transport demand of more than 250,000 tons/year.
Logistics centers ensure warehouse conditions and connect appropriate types of transportation to transport goods at airports including: Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Van Don, Cat Bi, Da Nang, Chu Lai, Long Thanh, Can Tho and some other airports when there is a need to transport goods that meet the above criteria. Forming an international cargo transit logistics center at Chu Lai airport.
The investment capital demand for airport system development by 2030 is about 420,000 billion VND, mobilized from state budget capital, foreign capital...
