On the evening of November 9, at Thang Long Imperial Citadel (Hanoi), the opening ceremony of the "Festival for Preservation and Development of Vietnamese Craft Villages 2023" took place.
National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue attended the opening ceremony. Also present were Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh, representatives of several international organizations and honored artisans and skilled workers.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan thanked the Party and State leaders for their attention to craft villages, rural economy, artisans and skilled workers. The products of craft villages are inspired by the talented hands and creative minds of thousands of artisans, skilled workers and workers to create products that both serve the daily life of the people and have aesthetic value, contributing to the uniqueness of the culture of the Vietnamese ethnic communities.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development also stated that while urban areas are considered to represent the level of socio-economic development of each country, rural areas are the places that preserve the spiritual life, national cultural identity, and core values imbued with humanity. If electronic devices and technological products are considered to be manifestations of the dynamism and science and technology of countries, then handicrafts and craft villages are the quintessence. When local resources are crystallized into socio-cultural values, imbued with the identity of each country and nation. The intangible cultural heritages of each country in the form of traditional crafts have contributed great economic, cultural and social value. Each craft village is associated with the story of material and spiritual life, passed down through many generations and cherished in each product.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development emphasized that in the coming time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to closely coordinate with ministries, branches, and localities, creating favorable conditions for artisans, skilled workers, and handicraft designers to stick with their profession and craft villages to spread the positive values to the community, together preserving and promoting the values of traditional handicraft villages, contributing to the program of building new rural areas, developing the rural economy, improving the quality of life and the rural fishing community.
Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh said that Hanoi Capital with a thousand years of history, is a place that preserves a huge, rich and national identity treasure, heritage and culture. In which, traditional craft villages are one of the places that preserve the historical and cultural values of the sacred land of Thang Long - Hanoi, talented people and the cultural exchange of many regions. Deeply aware of the value of craft villages and traditional occupations, Hanoi City has issued Resolution No. 9 on the development of cultural industries in the capital, in which it affirms the priority of developing occupations and craft villages until 2025 with a vision to 2030. At the same time, there are many mechanisms and policies to preserve and develop craft villages in the capital.
Currently, Hanoi is the locality and has the largest concentration of craft villages and artisans in the country with 1,350 craft villages and villages with crafts, accounting for 56% of the total number of craft villages in the country. Each craft village in Hanoi has its own identity, with unique products, bearing the local cultural style and highly competitive in the domestic and international markets.
Hanoi City strives to establish a national OCOP product innovation and introduction center in the capital by 2025, associated with tourism, culture and cultural industry development; At the same time, develop 9 creative design centers to introduce and promote OCOP products in districts and towns.
At the 2023 Vietnam Craft Village Conservation and Development Festival, Hanoi City will participate in 6 sideline events in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to carry out many official activities with the desire to promote craft village products, connect trade, promote product consumption and develop craft village tourism in the capital and the whole country. With that meaning, Hanoi City commits to continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to effectively carry out the work of preserving and promoting the value of Vietnamese crafts and craft villages, contributing to the successful implementation of the Rural Craft Development Strategy to 2030 with a vision to 2045 approved by the Prime Minister on September 4, 2023 - Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee emphasized.
At the opening ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan presented awards to artisans whose products won the A prize at the 2023 Vietnam Handicraft Product Contest.
