At the ceremony to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Border Guard's tradition day and the 35th anniversary of the People's Border Guard Day, President Vo Van Thuong awarded the Second Class Military Exploit Order to the Border Guard.
On the morning of March 1 in Hanoi, the Border Guard Command held a ceremony to receive the Second Class Order of Military Exploit in the fight against crime on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Border Guard's tradition day (March 3, 1959 - March 3, 2024), and the 35th anniversary of the People's Border Guard Day (March 3, 1989 - March 3, 2024).
The ceremony was attended by President Vo Van Thuong. Also attending was Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense.
Attending and directing the ceremony, President Vo Van Thuong sent his best regards and congratulations to the delegates, generations of officers and soldiers of the Border Guard, and people of all ethnic groups in border and island areas.
After 65 years of building, fighting and growing, to suit the situation and tasks of the country in each revolutionary period, the Border Guard has changed its organization and name many times.
According to the President, regardless of name or organization, the Border Guard is always a revolutionary armed force, the core force carrying out the task of protecting territorial sovereignty and national border security.
He assessed that over the past 65 years, the Border Guard has always been absolutely loyal to the Party, devoted to the people, resourceful, brave, overcoming all difficulties and hardships, and excellently completing assigned tasks. Actively participating in building and consolidating the political system at the grassroots level, developing the socio-economy in border areas, building a strong national border defense, contributing to maintaining every inch of the sacred land of the Fatherland.
In particular, with responsibility and noble heart, the Border Guard has created many good programs, movements, models and ways of doing things.
Outstanding programs include the program "Bringing children to school" - Adopted children of border guards, "Green uniform" teachers, "Green uniform" doctors, border guards strengthening communes, cultural highlights in border areas, shelters for the poor and soldiers in border and island areas, and the program "Spring on the border warms the hearts of villagers".
"Every beautiful action and good deed of the border guards at the remote borders, seas and islands has contributed to increasing the people's trust in the Party, State and regime, and brightening the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the new era," said the President.
Faced with the requirements of protecting the Fatherland, protecting the borders, seas and islands in the new situation, President Vo Van Thuong requested the Border Guard, all levels and sectors, especially the border localities, to continue to study, thoroughly grasp and well implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws on protecting the Fatherland, managing and protecting the national border in the new situation.
At the same time, improve the quality of training and education work associated with combat and work reality, proactively apply achievements of science and technology in managing and protecting national borders.
The President asked the Border Guard to promote the strength of national solidarity in building a strong all-people border defense and a strong all-people border defense posture.
"Build a solid defense zone, build a widespread border protection force, in which the people are the main subject, the armed forces are the core, and the Border Guard is a specialized, direct force," he said.
In addition, carry out defense diplomacy, border diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy flexibly, creatively, and effectively, and promote exchange and twinning activities between border management and protection forces and people on both sides of the border, and expand border cooperation with countries in the region.
Implement "both cooperation and struggle", be determined, persistent, clever and flexible in resolving issues of territorial sovereignty, ensure a peaceful environment, maintain national sovereignty, facilitate economic, cultural and social development, and strengthen national defense and security.
Focus on building a Border Guard Party organization that is strong in politics, ideology, ethics, organization and personnel; strengthen the work of building and rectifying the Party and the political system, and improve the quality of cadres and Party members.
The President also noted the need to focus on improving the quality and qualifications of soldiers, who are good at military affairs, have a firm grasp of the law, are proficient in professional skills, are proficient in foreign languages, especially those of neighboring countries and ethnic minorities, and understand the customs and practices of people in border areas, to better meet the requirements and tasks of managing and protecting the national border in the new situation.
65 years ago, implementing the policy of the Party Central Committee and President Ho Chi Minh, on March 3, 1959, the Prime Minister issued Decree No. 100/TTg establishing the People's Armed Police force, now the Border Guard.
