After taking his wife's money to pay off debt, the male driver stabbed himself in the thigh and falsely reported being robbed.
On the afternoon of April 6, the Investigation Police Agency of Binh Chanh District (Ho Chi Minh City) informed that the unit is preparing a case file to handle the case of a technology motorbike taxi driver falsely reporting a robbery in the area.
According to Binh Chanh District Police, on April 5, a post appeared on social media with a photo of a motorbike taxi driver being stabbed in the thigh. According to the poster, the incident occurred on a dirt road near Nguyen Van Linh Street (a section of the road in Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City).
At around 2:00 p.m. on April 5, Ly Minh Tuan (a motorbike taxi driver) drove his motorbike to an empty lot, stopped to use the restroom, and was attacked by two strangers with a wooden stick. Tuan was unable to fight back and was stabbed in the right thigh with a Thai knife by the other person, who robbed him of 27.5 million VND.
Upon receiving the information, Binh Chanh District Police began an investigation and sent officers to Cho Ray Hospital (where Tuan was being treated) to work with Ly Minh Tuan.
Through the initial investigation, the Investigation Police Agency of Binh Chanh District Police determined that the incident was not a robbery but was staged by the male driver himself.
Tuan confessed that because his parents were in financial difficulty and his business was losing money, he hid from his wife and borrowed 27.5 million VND from friends to send to his family. On the morning of April 5, when his wife gave him 27.5 million VND to deposit into his account, Tuan used the money to pay off all his debts.
After that, Tuan bought a Thai knife and rode his motorbike to an empty lot on Hamlet 3-4 Road, Hamlet 4, Phong Phu Commune, and stabbed himself in the thigh to stage a robbery.
Binh Chanh District Police are clarifying the case and preparing a file to administratively handle Ly Minh Tuan for falsely reporting a robbery.
